Environmental Psychology Working Group

Environmental psychology is an applied field of psychology that deals with human-environment interactions. The subject of environmental psychology is therefore the extent to which humans affect the environment and how the environment affects humans. Environmental psychology investigates the influence of people on their natural environment (e.g. sustainable behavior, environmental protection) as well as the perception of the environment (e.g. landscape perception, architecture) and the influence of nature and the environment on people (e.g. nature and Wellbeing). Environmental psychology uses a wide range of methods (including field experiments, laboratory studies, representative surveys) and has an interdisciplinary focus. It is a central pillar of the Bachelor's degree course "People and the Environment: Psychology, Communication, Economics". In the Bachelor's and Master's degree courses in Psychology and in Educational Sciences, basic knowledge of environmental psychology is deepened in individual seminars. Comprehensive modules are offered in the Master's degree courses in Psychology and ENCHURE (Environmental Challenges and Human Responses).
