The University
The Rheinland-Pfälzische Technische Universität (RPTU) Kaiserslautern-Landau is a young, dual-location university with a yet long-standing tradition in psychological research. For decades, the Landau campus was part of the University of Koblenz-Landau. In January 2023, a big merger took place: the Landau campus joined forces with the TU Kaiserslautern to form the RPTU. This alliance combines Landau’s renowned expertise in social and educational sciences with the technical and natural science profile of Kaiserslautern, creating a dynamic and interdisciplinary research environment.
Social Psychology in Landau
Social Psychology in Landau is characterized by a strong focus on societal relevance and the application of psychological theory to real-world challenges. The department is led by PD Dr. Dirk Kranz, Prof. Dr. Melanie Steffens, and Prof. Dr. Selma Rudert, who shape the joint research profile of our unit.
Our research covers a broad spectrum of modern social psychological issues, with a particular emphasis on the following core themes:
- Gender & Identity: Gender roles, stereotypes, and research on sexual orientation.
- Social Exclusion: Psychological mechanisms and the consequences of ostracism.
- Discrimination & Intersectionality: Investigating prejudices and the multifaceted nature of discriminatory experiences.
