The Department of Psychology welcomes your interest in a doctorate. What do you need to consider for a doctorate?
Application for acceptance as a doctoral candidate
Once you have found a doctoral topic and a supervisor, please submit an application for acceptance as a doctoral candidate to the dean's office.
You do not have to be enrolled as a doctoral student to do a doctorate in the department.
To do this, please submit the following documents by email to psy-promotion@rptu.de:
1. completed application for acceptance as a doctoral candidate (incl. supervisor's signature)
2. curriculum vitae with educational background
3. Notarized copy of the certificate of the university degree required for the doctorate (Master's degree, diploma).
The certification is not required if you completed your degree at the University of Landau.
4. Supervision Agreement Faculty PSY (see Word template)
5. exposé on the planned doctoral topic incl. timetable in pdf format (see Appendix 1 of the doctoral regulations)
6. as soon as you have been accepted as a doctoral candidate, you must complete the application for registration and submit it to Department 4 and the Dean's Office of Psychology (psy-promotion@rptu.de).
You do not have to be enrolled as a doctoral student to do a doctorate in the department.

In order for the application to be dealt with at a doctoral committee meeting, the documents must be submitted at least two weeks before the meeting.
Admission to doctoral studies
Once you have completed your dissertation, submit an application for admission to doctoral studies to the Dean's office.
To do this, submit the following documents/information by e-mail to psy-promotion@rptu.de:
1. application for admission to doctoral studies (incl. signatures of supervisor, second assessor and chairperson of the committee.
You can express your wishes for the choice of rapporteur and chair in the application. If you do not propose any persons,
the doctoral committee will nominate committee members)
2. Dissertation
3. Affidavit according to § 10 para. 2, sentence 4 and § 13 para. 2 doctoral regulations (for manuscripts with several authors:
Proof of the proportion of all authors using the CRediT table provided)
4. Curriculum vitae with educational background
5. In addition, for publication-based dissertations in a separate pdf file: Proof of the status of the manuscripts if they have not yet been published with
(e.g. under review at journal X, accepted for publication at journal X)
In addition, please submit the following original documentsby post to RPTU University Kaiserslautern-Landau (RPTU),

1. four bound copies of the dissertation incl. one USB stick each with an electronic version of the dissertation as a pdf file (without write protection)
2. certificate of good conduct (if necessary, see § 10 para. 5 doctoral degree regulations).
In order for the application to be dealt with in a doctoral committee meeting, the documents must be submitted at least two weeks before the meeting (the next dates of the doctoral committee meetings can be found in the section "Dates and members of the doctoral committee").
After the meeting of the doctoral committee, you will be informed whether your application has been approved. The dissertation will then be forwarded for review. The reviewers have 3 months to do this. Once the reviews have been received, the dissertation will be displayed and you will then be invited to the defense. There are at least four weeks between receipt of the reviews and the defense.
Please arrange the date of the defense with the members of the doctoral committee and inform them immediately by e-mail so that we can book a room for the defense and coordinate the deadlines.
After the defense you will receive an invoice for the doctoral fee of 170 EUR.

Please also note the following information:
If the dissertation is published online, the library recommends removing personal data in the CV and the signature on the affidavit in the online version of the dissertation.
The documents can be easily processed using the free tools Master PDF-Editor or Adobe Reader.

On 24.06.2024, the elections for the doctoral student representation (term of office: 01.10.2024-30.09.2025) took place in the Department of Psychology.
Sabrina Ecker was elected as a member and Pascal Merz as a deputy member of the doctoral student representation.
