Master Psychology: Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy (KliPP), M.Sc.

Training objective

The Landau Master's degree program "Psychology: Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy (KliPP)"at RPTU leads students to a university Master's degree (M.Sc.) in four semesters, which qualifies them for the entire range of clinical-psychological professional activities.

In addition, the degree program is a prerequisite for obtaining a license to practice as a psychotherapist, for which the state psychotherapeutic examination (in accordance with PsychThG § 10) must also be successfully completed. This is a prerequisite for further specialist psychotherapeutic training and prepares students for independent and managerial work in clinical-psychotherapeutic professional fields.

Since the winter semester 2023 / 24, two new Master's degree programs have been offered at RPTU in Landau:

  • Master's degree program "Psychology"
  • Master's degree program "Psychology: Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy (KliPP)"


Parallel applications for both Master's programs are possible.

Clinical psychology and psychotherapy in Landau

The KliPP Master's degree course is organized by the
Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy of Childhood and Adolescence working group and the
Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy of Adulthood working group.

Both work units are characterized by a close link between science, teaching and psychotherapeutic practice. In this way, we provide you with an evidence-based academic education that includes a wide range of practical experience and prepares you for everyday clinical practice.
In addition to the leading professors, the work units consist of doctoral students, postdoctoral researchers, administrative and organizational staff as well as supporting student assistants. The lecturers from both units are experienced child and adolescent psychotherapists, psychological psychotherapists or clinical psychologists in advanced therapeutic training. All lecturers have both scientific and therapeutic expertise and generally work in both areas at the same time.

Becoming a psychotherapist - what options are there?

  • Students who began their B.Sc. psychology studies AFTER September 1, 2020 can only obtain their license to practice as a psychotherapist via the Master's degree course "Psychology: Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy (KliPP)". (Information on the new further psychotherapy training after the KliPP Master's can be found on the website of the Rhineland-Palatinate Chamber of Psychotherapists)
  • Students who began their B.Sc. psychology studies BEFORE September 1, 2020
    • can acquire clinical credit points within our Master's degree program in Psychology, including examination credits, for the application to psychotherapy training institutes to obtain the subsequent license to practice in accordance with the old law (Psychotherapists Act in the version valid until 31.08.2020).
      How many credit points are required for the applications or The number of credit points required for applications or licensing must be obtained directly from the psychotherapy training institutes or the respective state chambers of psychotherapists.

    • can also apply for our specific Master's degree program "Psychology: KliPP", provided that they can prove that they have completed the knowledge and internship requirements in accordance with the new law (licensing regulations for psychotherapists, PsychThApprO) in modules or in follow-up courses within the Bachelor's degree program (not after graduation!).
