Parties, Campaigns, Mass Media and the European Parliamentary Elections 2009
On October 7th until 9th we will host an International Symposium on the 2009 European Parliamentary Elections at the Landau University Campus (Pfalz), Germany. The event will be sponsored by the Fritz-Thyssen-Foundation and hosted by the Institute of Communication Psychology/Media Education and the Institute of Social Science/Political Science of the University of Koblenz-Landau.
The Symposium will focus on this year’s seventh election to the European parliament and we intend to initiate an international, comparative, and interdisciplinary debate on the specific communicational event “European Election”, on campaign strategies, the role of mass media and how campaigns affect the public opinion and the electoral behaviour.
About 35 well-known referees from European and Non-European countries will be devoted to the topic “Campaigning for Europe” from many different perspectives. The dialogue between politicians, campaign managers and journalists on the one hand and scientists of political communication research, election research and international comparative policy research on the other hand takes centre stage at this symposium.
